Why Me?

by a young man, age 13

I saw them get arrested. Why me?
I saw him try to keep me from seeing
the truth, reality. Why me?
I saw her shooting up heroin, snorting coke,
smoking weed, smoking crack, and drinking alcohol.
Why me?

Four years old, hugging mama and kissing daddy
from a cell. Why me?

Daddy breaks into a car. Why me?
House burns down. Why me?
The only thing I had, which was my dog,
runs away. Why me?
I have to live with that b*tch aunt. Why me?

What did I do wrong?
Did I grow up to be what you wanted me to be,
Mom and Dad?
Did I?
I miss you, and I want you to know
I will always love you and have a place in my heart
for you.
You missed eight or nine years of my life.
I miss you.
I cry at night because I want to see you so badly.
I love you, Mom and Dad.

Dedicated to my whole family
