See Something, Say Something

by David

We are warned, our fears are stoked
In airports, train stations and bus stops
Anyone, anything could be
And probably is
A threat

Today I saw a red-winged black bird
Fly into a blackberry thicket
The size of a small house

Somehow it managed to
Glide into this dense tangle of
Nature’s concertina wire

And alight perfectly on a thin
Interior branch
This is what I saw today

I thought I should say something
