by a young woman, age 14

I’m from a street where
it’s full of apartments
and bumping roads
and beat down mailboxes.
I see dogs inside the fences
of houses.
There are pit bulls barking.

Crickets everywhere,
Chirp, chirp, chirp.

Woodpeckers in the trees.
I hear them pecking at the wood.

I am looking out the window
at everything.

I am calm
like an alligator.
