Wish Poem #1
by Katie W.

when I was young
I used to wish that
the sun would
never go down

today I wish
to see my friend
smile

everyday I wish
for something
I cannot explain

(but…)

my wish is the color
of a Mexican sunset
red, orange and pink

it is the sound
of my mother’s laughter
echoing off the trees

my wish is as big
as the blue Pacific Ocean
at times ebbing,
but always powerful

my wish is immense

my wish feels like
soft, warm sand
and tastes like
fresh, cool red tomatoes

my wish is
always in reach
but remains
ahead of me

my wish is
necessary
