If I Were a Poet
by Marc
If I were a shoe
then I would love nestling under the bed at bedtime
and I would hate the ache of gravel
and I would scream at all the dog poo on the ground.
If I were a pilot
then I would notice the force of the wind
and I would believe that every airport is home
and I would realize people need me to keep them safe.
If I were a fly
then I would sense all the things that are rotten
and I would think that my life has purpose
and I would never be tempted by sweet traps.
If I were a poet
then I would want to explain my life
and I would feel lonely but sometimes powerful
and I would hope that my poem would melt in your mind
