To Whom It May Concern

by Walter (age 18?)

To whom it may concern:
Thanks for the ripe, green tomatoes.
Every bite was an abrupt orgasm of bitterness.

But who does it concern?
Does it concern the little girl in the department store?
No.
She is lost.
Lost in a vast forest of moving trees.
She calls them
Strangers.

And what about the vagabond,
Whose thesis on life is composed of sorrow and pain?
No.
I don't think he cares, either.

Or what about the old man,
Who was once the life of the party,
And considered a real "catch"?
No.
He is stuck in an awkward state.

And what about you?
Yes, you.
