Pongo at Northwest Folklife Festival, May 27-30, 2011
Pongo will be giving five readings, including two big-stage performances that feature youth readers on Saturday, 2:00-3:00, and on Sunday, 2:00-3:00. In addition, Pongo is a sponsor of the Vera Stage. Richard and volunteers will host a table outside the stage, where we will show you Pongo books and talk about our project. Here are the specifics...
Friday, May 27, 8:35-8:55, Charlotte Martin Theatre. Richard will read as part of Northwest Stories Showcase (7:00-10:00 PM), introducing the Pongo readings that will follow at Folklife by speaking about Pongo and by reading youth poetry.
Saturday, May 28, 12:00-12:50, Narrative Stage. Pongo mentors from juvie project will read youth poetry, and their own poetry in response, in a presentation of Pongo's emotional work. "Tucked in the Corner: Pongo Teen Writing at the Juvenile Detention Center." (Adrienne, Eli, Vanessa, Mike, Alexanne)
Saturday, May 28, 2:00-3:00, Center House Theatre. Four youth readers will be featured in a presentation of Pongo poetry. "As Strong As The Waves That Swallow Me: The Pongo Teen Writing Project." (Aaron, Issac, Bry, Maddie, Fletcher, Eli)

Monday, May 30, 2:00-2:50, Narrative Stage. Pongo mentors from psych hospital project will read youth poetry, and their own poetry in response, in a presentation of Pongo's emotional work. "The Quieter We Become: Pongo Teen Writing at the Children's Psychiatric Hospital." (Ann, Mick, Anni, Jeff)
All Weekend. Pongo is sponsoring the VERA Project Stage, and will have a table with Pongo poetry books.
