Childhood Dreams

by Ryan (age 17)

I remember in my younger childhood days,
as I ran about my neighborhood
messing with girls and fighting with enemies,
never in my mind what was to come of my life,
always imagining everything was going to be all right,
never thinking that I would one day
be dead or in jail or on the streets.
My family life was always in trouble,
no one got along with one another,
and someone was always down and out.
Never thinking that when I grew up,
it would be me.
But all along it was my destiny,
and now I can't imagine myself any other place
but where I'm at now,
and that's jail.

Dedicated to my family
