Perhaps Sorrow
by Anni
Perhaps, sorrow is not what I thought.
Perhaps it is glowing, the color of gold.
Perhaps it is soft and smooth as silk.
Perhaps I couldn't hang onto it, even if I tried.
It would fall through my fingers, as dust.
Perhaps sorrow is an invitation,
not the invitation I hoped for,
not the gold-engraved invitation -- yet an invitation, nonetheless.
Perhaps it's inviting me to tea.
Perhaps if I sat down with it, I might be delighted.
It might say,
"Hello, dear friend, nice to meet you." Or I might say to it, "My heart hurts."
Perhaps we would become friends.
