While I also needed to speak up

And I expected to be silent, to please him
When he expected silence

While my father needed to beat me down
And my mother needed me not to implicate her
And my children needed my unconditional love
And my pets needed my unconditional love

I really needed a chance to be myself
I really needed some relief
But he needed to protect his private world from my pain
But he expected that it would be OK to hurt me

I needed to be angry for love
