Journey There and Home
by Samantha
Things weren't perfect in Kansas
It was boring and dangerous
A mean lady was angry at Toto
So Dorothy ran away
and was carried off in a tornado
and accidentally killed a witch
and the witch's sister was mad
So Dorothy was chased by flying monkeys
Her friends were stupid, heartless, and cowardly
The Emerald City was a false hope
The wizard was a fraud
There
****
But her friends were also smart, warm, and brave
She had Munchkin friends, too
and a good witch was on her side
and she learned something on the Yellow Brick Road
and it was a long, long, long journey that
wore out her ruby red slippers
and she had the answer in her heart all the time
and she was a survivor
but she would never be the same
and she would always be more worried than before
