The Undefined

by a young woman, age 16

Stars, they shine bright
they light up the night
They’re dead and don’t know it yet
In the beginning no one knew they were there
until they started shining
Stars are untouchable and unreachable
They’re unique and undefined

They make art in the sky
The Milky Way, and if you go even farther
they create a universe
When they shine, and line up right,
they’re named to a Zodiac sign

Stars constantly move
If they could, they would talk to the moon
They would ask “What’s life like
after I’m gone?”
The moon would say “Life would still go on”
The moon would say “You are a wish in people’s eyes”
