Salty Longing

by a young woman, age 17

Misty foam
Breaking against the currents
In my heart valves

Smells of a distant perfume
Braided with the scent
Of salty seawater
Running down my cheeks
And
dripping
off
my
chin
And falling in my mouth

Tasting like a bitter void
    Dry
       flavorless
hungry stinging salt on my lips
             the ocean filling
          caressing
       caressing
Caressing empty holes
With incurable longing incurable thirst

Sounds of the
                   :Lonely: ocean wave
The sound of reaching,
Eagerly trying to reach my ears,
Ears filled with quiet echoes
Of the doors slamming
And muffled cries beneath
The skin, beneath the heart,
Beneath the eyelids,
Eyelids tired from the steady
Cursing from teary foam

Drowning.
My heart valves are drowning.
