Teen Poetry Collections

Poems by Parents

This writing was collected from parents whose teens were in jail. Richard Gold met with parents through Prime Time, a community-based program for families of youth in the juvenile justice system. With the help of Prime Time case managers, Richard worked with parents in cafes, clinics, and homes. Parents contributed beautiful writing that conveys a poignant identification with their children and a sense of helplessness, while expressing determination, love, and hope. The Prime Time Project originates in the University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Division of Public Behavioral Health and Justice Policy.
