Next Wednesday, 7:30 in the Morning

by a young woman, age 15

I’m going to be discharged
Next Wednesday, 7:30 in the morning
I’m already packed and ready to go
I have mixed emotions
I’m nervous, like a puppy
nervous about getting picked from his litter
I’m frustrated, like a tornado
     flying over houses
I’m confused, like a winter storm
     blowing over homes
I’m anxious, like a computer
trying to turn itself back on
I’m excited, like people who are screaming
     on the most exciting rollercoaster
     they’ve ever been on

I’m nervous of failing my family
and falling back into my old habits
I’m frustrated of the slow-moving process
that’s been happening over the year
I’m confused of how things will work out for me
in my new school, for the good
I’m anxious for the long awaited time
     of being with loved ones
I’m excited to be free, not be locked up

The long wait is not so far away
I’m going to be discharged
Next Wednesday, 7:30 in the morning
