I Didn't Like It, But I Did It

by Anatole (age 17)

It began
When I started hating my step-dad,
I started beating him up
I was 12
I didn't like it, but I did it

I started coming to jail,
went back to my old neighborhood,
with gangsters, gangs, drugs
I became a gangster
And started doing crimes
I didn't like it, but I did it

I became ruthless
And didn't care how other people felt
Disrespecting people
As long as I got what I wanted
I didn't like it, but I did it

But as I started doing it more,
I started getting used to it
I started not caring anymore
I saw police doing things they shouldn't do
I thought, Why should I do good?
I didn't like it, but I did it

I never thought about this before
I just go day by day
I'm a rapper and a basketball player
But my dreams have gone astray

I didn't like it, but I did it

Dedicated to my little homies
