I Wonder

by a young woman, age 15

I wonder what a happy family feels like.

I wonder if my friends actually care.

I wonder what it’s like to be responsible.

I wonder what my little brother is doing.

I wonder if there really is a God.

I wonder what God would say to me if he watched over me
like people say he does.

I wonder if my little brother is going to school.

I wonder if his parents are still dope addicts.

I wonder what my mom thinks of me.

I wonder if my mom knew everything that went on when I was little.

I wonder why my mom acted like she didn’t know.

I wonder if in the future I’ll still be with my boyfriend.

I wonder why people have addictions.

I wonder if my dad really cared when I was little.

I wonder if my dad is sober.

I wonder if he has a job.

I wonder what my dad thinks about.

I wonder if I will ever have a happy family.

I wonder if I will sit down and eat dinner and play games
with my family.
