Deep Inside Me

by a young man, age 10

Deep inside me, I am goofy
When somebody says something silly,
Like a joke.

Deep inside me, I am as serious
As someone who doesn’t lie.

Deep inside me, I am as cuddly
As a mouse puppet with whiskers and pink legs,
Pink arms, pink ears and tail.

Deep inside me, I am as sad
As a tree with no branches,
Missing my mom.

Deep inside me, I am as excited
As a jack-in-the-box
That pops up, to see my mom
So I can go on a pass with her.

Deep inside, I am as angry as a boomerang.

Deep inside, I am as helpful
As someone who cleans up a lot,
Like my room, and when something breaks.

Deep inside, I am as beautiful
As my mom, because she is always nice.
She doesn’t yell as much.
