Dear Grandma

by a young man, age 16

Dear Grandma,

I just thought you should know what I’m doing now.
I am a loving person who spends a lot of time
thinking about the past.

I just thought you should know how I’m feeling.
I am depressed because of what you did to my childhood.

I just thought you should know what I’ve been through.
Since the last time I saw you, I have recovered so much.
The time that I spent with you was especially important.

I just thought you should know what I wish for the future.
I hope that I can help kids who have been through
the same stuff as me.

I just thought you should know what I don’t miss about you.
I am glad I don’t have to worry about my brothers’ and
sister’s health anymore.

I just thought you should know what I miss a lot.
I miss the way we occasionally got along.

I just thought you should know
that I am not what you molded me into.
