Baby Blues

by a young man, age 14

The first time I saw
My baby brother
He had a little bit of hair.
He was so fragile
I held him in the air.
His skin was as soft as silk.
His fingers were as small as caterpillars.
His toes were itsy bitsy.
His nose was as cute as a newborn kitten.
His ears were unique because they had
An extra dip on the inside.
I love my baby brother when
He sleeps on my arm.
I love his brown little eyes.
I sleep with one of his blankets
To give me comfort.
If I were a meerkat,
I’d know what he smelled like
So I could never lose him.

He’ll grow up to be a handsome lad.
